MBBS in UK or usa

MBBS in USA or UK is a highly expensive course and its very difficult to study without scholarship. There are lots of good quality medical colleges in India like AIIMS, AFMC, why not try these. These are recognised outside India as well. You can always go for MD abroad. Though the Indian govt sponsors students to study abroad but applying for one can be time consuming and a lengthy process. In the UK you can try for the following scholarships Dr. Manmohan Singh Scholarships, Scotland Saltire scholarship, Commonwealth scholarship, Charles Wallace India Trust. Also, if you applying for MBBS then you must apply before 15 Oct of the preceding year through UCAS. you will also need to appear for UKCAT or GAMSAT.

Okay, so i am a high school student wanting to study medicine.

I know that in Australia the course for the MBBS is a 4 year course and after that you would have to do your internship and residency. I also understand this to be the same in the UK.

However in the USA I understand that universities there require you to have done an undergraduates degree before applying to med school which takes another 4 years. So in total the process there before you get your MD would be 8 years. (4 undergrad + 4 med school)

Then AFTER your get your MD you gotta do internship and residency.

Why is it in the US it takes so much longer to finally get your MD than the MBBS in the UK or Australia? Or am i missing something here?

  1. Pursuing Medical degrees in USA is extremely challenging in terms of competition and financial investment, but if you have a zeal and have dedication to make a difference in Medical Science, it's the best one shot should take.
